Matthew Melling, better know as The Wigan Runner, is returning to Torbay next weekend to run in the Torbay Half Marathon and we cant wait to meet him!
For those who don’t already know his story, Matthew has been running every day since 1st January 2017 and by the time he arrives in Torbay on 21st June he will have been running for over 900 days consecutively! He’s raised huge amounts of money for charity and other community projects, including supporting the Youth Dodgeball Team, in his home town of Wigan, which he helps to coach.
Matthew discovered Torbay earlier this year when he came to run here and described the bay as ‘a hidden gem’. After a chance encounter with Riviera Racers during one of our Monday night training sessions, we have been keenly following his adventures and were delighted when he got in touch to let us know about his return visit!
We can’t wait to meet The Wigan Runner again and are looking forward to participating in the Torbay Velopark Park Run with him on Saturday 22nd June and in the Torbay Half Marathon on Sunday 23rd. So if you are at a loose end on Saturday morning, come along for a run at Torbay Velopark Park Run, and on Sunday please come along and show your support for Matthew, and indeed for all the Runners taking part in the Torbay Half! This includes 23 members from Riviera Racers – our biggest club turnout to date, with many members competing in their very first Half Marathon! Look out for our stand on Paignton Green and please feel free to come along and say ‘hi’ – its a great way to find out more about the club and what we are all about!
